Task. To create a trendy event that develops tourism and musical culture of the country as a whole. The idea of the city – as a tourist, open, welcoming, with its unique atmosphere.
Solution. Jazz festival with three stages and free fan zones, activities all over Lviv, 60 concerts of stars from 15 countries became a solution.
Agency 42 is a constant event partner of the festival for nine years.
The first festival was attended by 25,000 guests for three days. At first, it lasted 3 days, now 5. But the number of stages has remained unchanged – there are three of them.
The main stage of the festival is in the park named after B. Khmelnytskyi – the stage named after Eddie Rozner – the only one location where the entrance is by ticket only. But, anyway, there are free access fan zones nearby, where you can watch concerts on large screens.
There are also stages in the central square of Lviv – Market Square and a stage in the historical part of the city – the courtyard of the Potocki Palace.
The festival is annually serviced by 3 thousand personnel. Besides, more than 90 volunteers work at locations – employees of partner companies that undergo thorough “casting”.
Street music by Leopolis Jazz Festival of Street Music takes place as well: in the daytime, world stars hold masterclasses and autograph sessions, and at night jam sessions are held at various city clubs, where guests can talk informally with performers.
Every year the award of the International Music Prize “Leopolis Jazz MusicAwards” named after Eddie Rozner (“Alfa Jazz MusicAwards” until 2017) took place at the gala concert of the festival in Lviv.
Result. The Guardian included the event in the list of the best festivals in Europe. The period during which the festival takes place is comparable to the inundation of tourists in the hottest seasons for Lviv – Christmas and Easter holidays.
Emotions are converted into a second choice – to come to the city and to spend money. If in 2011 the festival gathered about 20 thousand guests, in 2019 – more than 100 thousand.
A few results by the numbers. In 2017 the sociological agency “Fama” conducted a survey among 800 respondents aged 18 to 60. Respondents should evaluate the role of the festival in the city life. According to the results, the annual Leopolis Jazz Fest helps developing the cultural sphere of Lviv (92.4%), increasing its tourist attractiveness (91.3%), increasing the country’s international image (81.4%), attracting foreign investments (72.8%), being convinced of the nationwide support (52.4%) and demonstrating that the world supports Ukraine (61.4%).
